Youth

The YMCA of Northwest North Carolina Association aspires to be an outstanding recreational youth sports organization by providing fun, memorable seasons to our athletes, coaches, and parents. Each athlete should feel like an important part of the team, regardless of performance, and learn the skills, tactics, and strategies of the game to improve as a player.

Family-Friendly Registration Process

Our registration process will allow you to choose the practice day and time that is most convenient for your family (except for volleyball). The practice day and time that you choose at registration will determine your team. Early registration is strongly encouraged as each team has a set number of participants and once a practice day and time has reached its player capacity that team will be full.

Volleyball Skills Evaluations

All participants 10 years and older MUST attend evaluation and teams will be drafted by coaches using the results from these evaluations. For more information on the volleyball skills evaluations process, please click here.

PlayerSpace

This is an online sports platform that is utilized for simplifying communication among coaches, players and YMCA sports staff. PlayerSpace is where you will find your roster, practice and game schedules, as well as contact information for those on your team. If you do not have a PlayerSpace account, you will receive an email asking you to set one up once the teams have been assigned. If you have an existing account, please log in after the date that teams have been assigned. PlayerSpace will be used for basketball, soccer, flag football, t-ball/baseball and volleyball.

 

Sports Camps

Sports Camps at Camp Play Ball reaches far beyond developing youth’s skills in the sports they love. Summer is a time to get outside, enjoy time with friends, be active and have fun! Our high energy coaches pride themselves on making this a reality for every child. Come enjoy the summer like it was meant to be enjoyed. Camps consist of games, water day, arts and crafts. Be a Coach!

As is the case with all recreational leagues, the Y program is built on dedicated volunteer coaches. If you are a great role model, have a fun-loving attitude, enjoy working with kids, and have good communication skills, you are qualified to become a head coach! The Y provides coach training and practice plans, along with help from staff members when needed. Coaching couldn’t get any easier! If you are interested, contact the Y staff listed below and tell them you want to make an impact this season! Coaches, please make sure to register your child as soon as possible to ensure they have a spot on the team, as we cannot hold spots on any team.

Coaches’ Meetings

All coaches’ meetings will take place in the Activity Room.


Adults

Fall Volleyball League

This is a co-ed sport and the score is kept. There are no practices, only games. Games are held each Monday starting as early as 7:00pm. Each team is responsible for referring others’ games. Teams will play two matches and ref a match each night with game times varying each week. Season will end with a tournament on October 29.

This is a bring-your-own-team sport. If you are not currently affiliated with a Y team and would like to be placed onto a team, please come to a Monday evening open gym. Open gym runs August 20 and 27 starting at 7:00pm.

Open gym is open for YMCA members, players registered on a team or those individuals seriously interested in joining a team. All others must abide by our guest policy. Please connect with the Site Supervisor upon arrival to get assistance in finding a team.

Each team will nominate their captain who is charged with collecting playing fees, managing the roster and recording how many games each player has participated in. Players much play in at least four games to participate in the tournament. Click here for the additional league rules.


Pick Up Basketball

Adult Pick-Up Basketball is all about competition, exercise, relationship building, staying fit, and developing a healthy lifestyle while enjoying a great time! All skill levels are welcome.

Tuesdays and Thursdays: 5:00-7:00am on Court 3 & 4 (ages 18 & over)
Tuesdays and Thursdays: 5:30-8:00pm on Court 1 (ages 35 & over)

Senior Men’s Basketball
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:00-9:30am on Court 1

Free for members!

No need to sign up in advance, just come ready to play and meet new people that enjoy basketball as much as you do! Please note that these pick up times are subject to change at any time. Pick up times are valid through August 26. Pickleball

Come out and join a game that combines tennis, racquetball, ping pong and squash. Pickleball is a great way to combine fun and fitness.

Racquetball

We have two racquetball courts which can be reserved 24 hours in advance by calling 336.245.5839. You don’t need to sign up in advance if a court is available, and Members can check out equipment from the check-in desk.
