After breaking ground just over a year ago, the Robinhood Road Family YMCA officially cut the ribbon for the new airnasium, facade renovation, and expanded parking lot that has now all been completed.

The ceremony featured remarks from Robinhood Road Family YMCA Executive Director Heather Warren, YMCA of Northwest North Carolina Board Member Courtney Driver, Robinhood Road Family YMCA capital donor Sheila Garcia, lead capital donor Debbie Crotts-Jennings and YMCA of Northwest North Carolina interim CEO Donna Rodgers.

“The opening of the C. Jennings Family Airnasium represents the power of community, generosity, and shared vision,” said interim CEO Donna Rodgers. “We are deeply honored to celebrate Cary Jennings’ legacy through a space that will bring people together for generations to come — creating opportunities for connection, wellness, and belonging for all.”

The completed renovations include:

  • Airnasium Addition -. The much-anticipated C. Jennings Family Airnasium is a covered, open-air recreational facility meant to be a versatile space for various YMCA programs, such as: Let’s Get Fit exercise classes, LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA, PWR! Moves Parkinson’s Program, pickleball, group exercise classes, boot camps, personal training and youth and teen after school activities.
  • Facade Renovations - Our building’s exterior is the first impression we make. Our new facade not only beautifies our facility but also creates a welcoming atmosphere that reflects our commitment to the community. It also enhances functionality, safety, and energy efficiency.
  • Parking Lot Expansion - In 2025, the Robinhood Road Family YMCA purchased land adjacent to the YMCA to alleviate parking challenges stemming from high utilization.
    • The YMCA has now added over 120 new parking spaces for our community.

“This project is a reflection of what makes the YMCA and this community so special — people coming together to create opportunities for others,” said executive director of the branch Heather Warren. “The generosity and vision of the Jennings family will have a lasting impact on the families, children, and individuals who will gather in this space every day. We are honored to continue Cary Jennings’ legacy through a place designed to foster connection, belonging, and wellbeing for our entire community.”

The Robinhood Road Family YMCA is a destination for all people who are looking to reach their God-given potential in spirit, mind, and body. Work with talented personal trainers and experience the excitement of group exercise classes. Plus, enjoy peace of mind with our caring Kids Zone (formerly known as Child Watch) staff who will watch your children while you exercise.
