In a transformative move aimed at enhancing healthcare access and promoting health equity, the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina and its partner, Novant Health, have introduced a leading-edge virtual care kiosk at various Y branches. This innovative solution enables members to have on-demand virtual visits with Novant Health clinicians for a range of minor illnesses and injuries.

Picture this: You go to wake your child up for school and notice their eye is red and sore. You look at the time and realize the nearest urgent care does not open for another hour. Then you remember, you can go to Virtual Care at the Y!

Welcoming Healthcare for All

Virtual Care at the Y is designed to tackle everyday ailments like earaches, sore throats, coughs, colds, skin conditions, and yes, even pinkeye. Thanks to the TytoCare medical device, healthcare providers can perform thorough examinations, covering everything from heart and lung sounds to close inspections of ears, throat, skin and eye conditions.

But it's not just about the tech—it's about making healthcare accessible and equitable. This service isn't exclusive to YMCA members; it's open to community members of all ages (just make sure there is an adult present for those under 18). Plus, you can access Virtual Care at the Y and Novant Health providers any time the branch is open. That is a game-changer, as branches tend to operate outside of standard urgent care hours.

Accessing Virtual Care at the Y

To initiate a virtual visit, patients are encouraged to have a Novant Health MyChart account. It is the key to seamless and secure communication between patients and healthcare providers. If a patient does not have one, no worries—create an account before the visit for a hassle-free experience.

Once at the Y, simply ask a YMCA member service representative for access to the kiosk. Those attending for sick visits are requested to wear masks. Masks are available at the check-in desk for anyone without one.

Financial assistance is also available via Novant Health’s financial assistance application.

Branches

Virtual Care at the Y is available at several YMCA branches.

  • Alexander County Family YMCA
  • Stokes Family YMCA
  • William G. White, Jr. Family YMCA
  • Winston Lake YMCA & REACH Center

The partnership between the YMCA of NWNC and Novant Health is more than just a collaboration; it is a glimpse into the future of healthcare. With Virtual Care at the Y, a doctor’s visit no longer just happens in a building—it is in your community, ready to make healthcare more personal, convenient and welcoming for everyone.
