Stokes Family YMCA Member Sharon Taylor fell in love with the Y and wants to be an inspiration to others. Sharon said, “It is a mindset. Decide you want it!” She has been a member since May 2017 and can’t believe she has already lost 18 pounds and several inches. Here is her story:

“I have always liked to walk and exercise. I was amazed to see everything the Y had to offer. I always thought the Y was a gym and swim, but the Y has coaches to help you on your journey and I have met many nice people. I look forward to talking with those I have met when I come in to workout. We encourage each other.

I first started by working out in the fitness center. I like the weights and cardio machines. Sometimes it can be discouraging when you are sore and you are only losing a pound a week. However, it is a mindset and I decided I wanted it! I started to notice my clothes were loose and that gave me confidence. I had lost inches, so I cut out sweets and sodas and began prepping my foods for the next day the night before. I now eat smaller, healthier meals and find I have a lot more energy, sleep better, and do not get hungry like I used to. I have a “cheat day” Saturday, but I do not go overboard.  I also do not let the scale upset me. It took a long time to put the weight on and it will take a while to get it off. I am doing it the healthy way and loving it! I can’t wait to see what tomorrow will bring.

I want to tell you a funny story. I am a preschool teacher and had Pre-K graduation on June 1. I was so sore from working out that I could hardly walk up the stairs to the stage. When I was standing on the stage I felt something on the back of my leg. I felt to see what it was and found I was having a wardrobe malfunction. My underwear and panty hose were falling down because I never got them tucked in properly so they wouldn’t fall down during the ceremony. This was funny and also felt good to know my hard work was paying off.

Remember not to be intimidated by others who may have been working out longer than you. We all started somewhere. It is YOUR journey! Decide YOU want it and YOU will be happier in the end!”
