In November of 2024, the William G. White, Jr. branch of the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina announced a ten-year partnership with Daggett Shuler, Attorneys at Law, to create the Safe Sober Teen Center.

This initiative has established a unique space within the YMCA that provides critical after-school support for Winston-Salem teens. Currently serving over 125 students, the Safe Sober Teen Center offers middle and high school students a safe, nurturing environment where they can focus on academics, participate in enrichment programs, and enhance their mental and physical well-being.

This year is the 35th anniversary of Daggett Shuler’s Safe Sober program along with the annual t-shirt design contest. Local high school students in Forsyth County submit their designs to be printed on thousands of shirts that are distributed around the community. The student also receives a $1,000 scholarship, along with the teacher of that student receiving $1,000 for classroom needs. The 2025 contest winner was Carver High School student Christopher Pegelow, the first winner from Carver.
