Try Les Mills GRIT!

We have three chances to try Les Mills GRIT for free! GRIT is a 30 minute HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workout that will rapidly advance your fitness. GRIT is offered as an 8 week small group session. The next session begins the week of January 7, 2019.  Session registration opens to all on December 10.

On the following Saturdays, everyone has the rare opportunity to try the 3 different formats of GRIT for free:

Saturday, December 1: 9:30-10:00am GRIT CARDIO
Saturday, December 8: 9:30-10:00am GRIT STRENGTH
Saturday, December 15: 9:30-10:00am GRIT PLYO

All will take place in the Group Exercise Studio. No reservation needed; however, it will be limited to 50 people, first come first served. GRIT is not recommended for women who are pregnant. Try it, love it, and sign up for the 8 week session that will transform your fitness as you head into a new year!

We have a variety of classes from the popular Les Mills and Zumba® series to cardio, cycle, and yoga classes. Classes are open to all exercise levels, with alternative movements offered for different skill levels to maximize your personal workout. Our instructors are happy to give additional guidance to beginners, just introduce yourself before class!

For those with specific fitness goals, the Y offers various specialty training and boot camps designed for smaller groups. Specialty fitness classes combine the unique elements of group training and accountability in a focused fitness environment. We cater to all fitness levels from beginner through advanced.

Les Mills GRIT

Les Mills GRIT is thirty minute small group training, offered in 8-week sessions. The Les Mills GRIT series consists of three unique high-intensity interval-training workouts: Strength, Plyo, and Cardio. Scroll down to see all of the options we offer!

 

Boxing For Fitness and Self Defense

Triad Martial Arts and Wrestling Academy

For ages 4-6 and 7 and up (including adults). The Jerry Long Family YMCA has teamed up with Triad Martial Arts and Wrestling Academy. Lead Sensei: Michele and Tarron Coalson.

Basic Karate techniques mixed with interactive games and exercises to develop self-esteem and confidence.

Ballroom Dancing

Ballroom Dancing has many benefits, including improving the strength, flexibility, and endurance of participants in a fun and social atmosphere. Dancing can also help to reduce stress while boosting participants’ self-confidence. Our class is ideal for beginner to intermediate ballroom dancers.
Each 6-week class incorporates instruction in two of the dances Swing (S), Waltz (W), Fox Trot (FT), Rumba (R), Tango (T) and Cha Cha (CC).

Health and Wellness Programs

LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA

LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA is a 12-week, small group program designed for adult cancer survivors who are post treatment up to five years. This program fulfills the important need of supporting the increasing number of cancer survivors who find themselves in the transitional period between completing their cancer treatment and the shift to feeling physically and emotionally strong enough to attempt to return to their normal life or their “new normal”. The program is conducted outside of medical facilities to emphasize that LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA is about health, not disease. In addition to the physical benefits, LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA focuses on the emotional well-being of survivors and their families by providing a supportive community where people impacted by cancer can connect during treatment and beyond. The weekly 90-minute sessions take place in a small group setting and are adjusted to the individual’s ability level. The program is of no cost to participants and also includes a free Y membership for the session’s duration.

YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program

Change Today For A Healthier Future

An estimated one of every three U.S. adults has prediabetes, yet just 7% of those with prediabetes know they have it.

Are you or someone you know at risk? Take the quiz now to find out.

You can reduce your risk for type 2 diabetes and gain tools for healthy living. If you are at risk for type 2 diabetes, the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program provides a supportive environment where you can work with others in a small group setting to learn how to adopt healthy habits to reduce your chances of developing the disease.

The program, which is led by a trained Lifestyle Coach in a classroom setting, is delivered over a 12-month period, beginning with 16 weekly sessions followed by monthly maintenance. You will learn strategies for eating healthier, increasing your physical activity and making other changes that will improve your overall health and well-being. National Institutes of Health research has proven that programs like the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program can reduce the number of cases of type 2 diabetes by almost 60%.

UFIT: Helping You Get The Results You Want

What is uFit?

uFit is a program that provides you with an easy-to-follow plan and cutting edge fitness tools. You will not be alone in this process. Our highly trained staff will help you set attainable goals and will provide the ongoing support necessary for your success.

In three short meetings, we can take you from an exercise skeptic to a confident individual who is excited about working out. In just a few sessions, you will gain the tools and resources that will help you succeed.

You will finally learn what really works in terms of exercise, weight loss, and having more energy – not to mention just becoming healthier. This program is valued at $150, but offered at no cost to all new members. You are encouraged to sign up within the first week of your membership.
