At YMCA Camp Hanes, we believe camp is for everyone. Whether you're a summer camper, Outdoor Education student, retreat guest, volunteer, donor, alumni, or first-time visitor, we're grateful you're here and excited to welcome you into our camp community.
Our vision is simple: to create a place where every person belongs and grows in confidence, character, and community. Every program, activity, and relationship is intentionally designed to help people discover who they are, build meaningful connections, and experience the joy of being part of something bigger than themselves. Guided by our YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Faith, we strive to create experiences that challenge, encourage, and inspire people of all ages.
Our commitment to excellence extends beyond the experiences we create. YMCA Camp Hanes is proud to be American Camp Association (ACA) Accredited, demonstrating our dedication to providing a safe, high-quality camp experience. ACA accreditation is the camping industry's nationally recognized standard and reflects our ongoing commitment to health and safety, staff training, risk management, and program quality. Families, schools, and retreat groups can have confidence knowing that Camp Hanes meets and exceeds hundreds of nationally established standards designed to ensure every participant has an exceptional experience
Since the summer of 1927, when Harry Long welcomed the first campers to the newly established John W. Hanes Memorial YMCA Camp, generations have discovered the life-changing impact of camp. Today, nearly a century later, more than 12,000 participants each year experience the adventure, friendships, and traditions that have made Camp Hanes the "566-Acre Memory Maker." As we prepare to celebrate our 100th anniversary in 2027, we remain committed to honoring our rich history while investing boldly in the future so that generations to come can experience the same sense of belonging and transformation.
One of the greatest strengths of Camp Hanes has always been its people. We value the relationships we build with our campers, families, schools, churches, retreat groups, volunteers, alumni, donors, and community partners. Your feedback, ideas, and support help us continue to grow and improve each year.
