Preschool and private lessons often take place in the sunshine pool when it is not in use by water fitness classes. Please be patient as we accommodate these lessons.
Adult only swim time is available throughout the year, but will change seasonally. The adult only swim time during the school year is: Monday–Friday from 2:00-3:30pm. All children should remain in the lap pool during this time

Pool breaks for all pools will happen every hour on the hour for 10 minutes. All swimmers under 18 must take a break.
If thunder is heard or lightning is seen, the lifeguards will close all indoor and outdoor pools and clear the pool decks. All pools must remain closed until 30 minutes after the last thunder or lightning is observed, as per insurance and YMCA guidelines.
Spring Break Swim Camp
Spring Break is right around the corner! We want your kids to come to Swim Camp at the Y! Swim Camp is for ages 4-14. Participants will spend 60-80 minutes engaged in activities that will help them progress in their swimming skills. Then they will spend 30-45 minutes playing games and having free swim, all while continuously working on their skills and endurance. The remainder of the time is spent changing clothes, eating a packed lunch, and playing on the playground or indoors depending upon the weather. Contact Rachel for more information at 336-838-3991.
The YMCA offers a swim program for babies and toddlers ages 6-36 months. This program is parent taught, instructor lead. Our classes introduce basic, introductory water skills such as blowing bubbles, breath control, kicking, and floating through songs and games. The class focuses on water orientation and encourages parents and babies to trust each other in the water. For more information, please click here.
Traditional Swim Lessons
Traditional lessons are a group lesson format lasting three or four weeks, depending on the session (8 classes total), where swimmers will gain strength and ability through endurance training and drills, personal safety to give participants the power to understand and respond in an emergency situation, and games that build on strokes and skills. On Demand Swim Lessons
On Demand lessons are available two different ways: Private and Semi-private. For more information, see below.
Private lessons provide an opportunity for your instructor to work with you one-on-one based on your individual needs and abilities.
Semi-private lessons are available to swimmers of all ages and swimming abilities in groups of 2-3. These lessons are perfect for siblings, couples, cousins, neighbors and friends who want to learn to swim together in a more individualized setting than traditional lessons offer.
Lifeguard Certification Classes
During this class, participants will learn life-saving rescue skills for an Aquatic Environment. Once a participant takes the classes and passes the skills and written test, they will be certified as a YMCA Lifeguard for 2 years.

Early Morning Intermediate
This class offers a moderately intense workout in the warm waters of the Sunshine Pool. This class offers a wide variety of actions focusing on building strength in body and core, endurance, and range of motion.
Build friendships and muscle with this intermediate level workout. This class offers a wide variety of activities from low-impact cardio and strength building work in the shallow end to no-impact workout in the deep end.

For those who like to sleep in, we have a traditional class for you!
Lunch Time Intermediate- Advanced
Get a workout doing untraditional workouts! Relays, core focused workouts, water volleyball, kickboxing, and more!
Beginner-Intermediate Deep Water
This class focuses on deep water exercises which build core strength and endurance and range of motion. This class offers all the benefits of strength and fitness training with no impact. Flotation devices are available for use.
Lunch Time Beginner-Intermediate
Come join this active community as they work together to reach their own goals. Each class is centered around specific skills and will take you through a complete workout – including warm-up, aerobic and interval training, and cool down.
Come join this class for an exercise experience which fuses the best of two worlds – low impact, water resistance exercise with high energy muscle-group work.
Tyde Swim Team
TYDE is a USA Swimming and YMCA swim team offering a full range of competitive programming for all ages (kindergarten-adult). Originally started in 1973 as WSY, we have grown to become one of the largest and most respected swim teams in North Carolina and across the country. Whether you are looking for a gentle introduction to competitive swimming, a nationally ranked training program or anything in between, TYDE has what you’re looking for!
Exists to offer an entry-level and/or flexible swim team experience, providing quality stroke instruction and age appropriate conditioning without a heavy focus on competition or time commitment. This track is ideal for swimmers who may be new to year-round swimming, are involved in various other activities or are looking to get in shape for a school or summer team. Intra-team swim meets are offered once every three months and participation is optional.
Our intermediate swim team experience with more opportunity for both practices and competitions than our Seasonal Track without any increased participation requirements. Swimmers begin to compete with team members from every TYDE site and develop goals with more sense of team vs. individual focus. This track is designed for swimmers with some previous swim team experience and a willingness to explore their full potential in the pool. USA Swimming and YMCA swim meets are offered once every three to four weeks and participation is encouraged but optional.
Provides adult swimmers, triathletes & fitness enthusiasts of all levels with the newest methods for developing good technique. Participants will enjoy the benefits of training progression geared to enhance fitness and performance in a highly interactive environment. Currently operating out of William G. White, Jr., Winston Lake, and Yadkin Family YMCAs.
