Leaders in Training (LITs) - Rising 10th Grade

The LIT is a two week program designed for young men and women who have a drive to learn leadership skills. Through a series of group discussions, team building, initiatives, and challenge course participation we explore each camper’s inner potential and leadership abilities. During their two weeks LITs will also spend time devoted to “Service to Others.” Service projects teach the importance of sharing your talents and abilities with others and caring for your community. LITs will gain documented community service within the Winston Salem community. During the second week in addition to community service and leadership sessions there will be a single overnight camp out at our local Hanging Rock State Park.

Counselors in Training (CITs) - Rising 11th Grade

The CIT program is a two week, hands-on experience for those that wish to be counselors at Camp Hanes. CITs focus on service to camp and learning about being a counselor. As a CIT you will play a very important role in the operation of camp on a daily basis. CITs commit themselves to “behind the scenes” work in all areas of camp. It is this dedication to service that makes camp successful. Through this program you not only learn about being a counselor but the importance of hard work, of developing your strengths and preparing for the future employment.

If you are interested in the CIT program you must submit a letter of interest to Amelia Johnson at amelia.johnson@ymcanwnc.org by January 31. Online registration opens February 2nd. In March CITs and their families, who have submitted a letter of interest and are registered, will be scheduled to attend an informational Zoom call.
