- All children 8th grade and under will be required to take the new swim test.
- If child does not want to be swim tested they will be considered a RED swimmer and must adhere to the RED swimmer rules.
- All Children 5th grade and under must have an adult (18+) in the pool area at all times.
A child who is unable to pass the YELLOW or GREEN swim test, must stay in the shallow end of the pool and must wear the RED neck band while in the pool. If the child is in 5th grade or under, an adult must be in the water, arms length away and actively engaged with that child at all times. An adult may supervise no more than (2) red swimmers at a time. A coastguard approved life vest may be required at the lifeguard’s discretion.
A child who is at least 51” tall and is able to swim 15 yards without stopping. They may not enter water deeper than shoulder height and must wear the YELLOW neck band while in the pool. If the child is 5th grade or under, an adult must be in the pool area at all times.
A child who can, without stopping:
- Jump feet first in the deep end of the pool.
- Swim forward on top of the water, using any stoke other than a ‘doggy paddle’.
- Stop half way and tread water for 30 seconds.
- Continue swimming to the end of the pool and be able to exit the pool by themselves.
Green swimmers may swim in any water depth and must wear the GREEN neck band while in the pool. If the child is 5th grade or under, an adult must be in the pool area at all times.
Children who have passed the YELLOW or GREEN test will have a card with their name on it. Every time they come to swim, they must get the card from the card box, and give it to the lifeguard in exchange for a GREEN or YELLOW neck band.
Please return all neck bands to the lifeguard and return your card to the box before leaving the pool deck.

Originally started in 1973 as WSY, we have grown to become one of the largest and most respected swim teams in North Carolina and across the country. Whether you are looking for a gentle introduction to competitive swimming, a nationally ranked training program or anything in between, TYDE has what you’re looking for!
Exists to offer an entry-level and/or flexible swim team experience, providing quality stroke instruction and age appropriate conditioning without a heavy focus on competition or time commitment. This track is ideal for swimmers who may be new to year-round swimming, are involved in various other activities or are looking to get in shape for a school or summer team. Intra-team swim meets are offered once every three months and participation is optional.
Our intermediate swim team experience with more opportunity for both practices and competitions than our Seasonal Track without any increased participation requirements. Swimmers begin to compete with team members from every TYDE site and develop goals with more sense of team vs. individual focus. This track is designed for swimmers with some previous swim team experience and a willingness to explore their full potential in the pool. USA Swimming and YMCA swim meets are offered once every three to four weeks and participation is encouraged but optional.
Provides adult swimmers, triathletes & fitness enthusiasts of all levels with the newest methods for developing good technique. Participants will enjoy the benefits of training progression geared to enhance fitness and performance in a highly interactive environment. Currently operating out of William G. White, Jr., Winston Lake, and Yadkin Family YMCAs.
