Wilkes County’s second YMCA location will offer indoor wellness options for members again for the first time since March 2020.
NORTH WILKESBORO — The Wilkes Express YMCA will open its indoor wellness center to Y members again, starting Monday, March 29, for the first time since since the pandemic began in March 2020.
“We’re thrilled to reopen this YMCA for our members and for the community in Wilkes County,” said Caroline Whitson, Executive Director of the Wilkes Family YMCA.
The Wilkes Express Family YMCA will be open from 7:00 am-1:00 pm Monday-Friday and closed on weekends. These hours are subject to change based on visitation and usage.
Like other Ys, the Wilkes Express YMCA will be deep cleaned throughout the day, have markings in the building to encourage physical distancing of 6 or more feet and will follow all state, local and federal guidelines and mandates for health and safety.
“Keeping our Ys safe is always a top priority, but especially now with the ongoing pandemic,” Whitson said. “We’ll ensure the same level of commitment to care and cleanliness to the Wilkes Express YMCA as we have to the Wilkes Family YMCA.” Plus, we’re offering a $0 joining fee for both the Wilkes Family and Wilkes Express YMCAs now through April 24, 2021.
Wilkes Express YMCA members were able to use the Wilkes Family YMCA — or any other Y in the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina — while this branch was closed.
The Wilkes Express and Wilkes Family YMCAs, along with 13 other branches in the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina, temporarily closed indoor wellness programs in March 2020 — before an executive order required it. In the fall of 2020, almost all YMCA of NWNC branches reopened with limited hours, as well as limits to building capacity.
