Welcome back! The YMCA of Northwest North Carolina is thrilled to reopen our branches — with some restrictions — under Governor Cooper’s Executive Order. Branches will open with modified services and amenities, enhanced cleaning protocols and new guidelines for members and staff.

If you placed your membership on hold until we reopen, we will begin drafting membership fees again on your next scheduled draft date upon the reopening of your home branch. If you requested a hold date other than our reopening, it will begin drafting on your requested date. If you need to make other changes to your membership, you can email us at memberservice@ymcanwnc.org. You may also call 336 777 8055 option 8 to leave a message and we will call you back as quickly as possible.

Thanks for your support of the Y! We can’t wait to see you in the branch!

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: My YMCA isn’t on the list for reopening. When will it open, and can I use other YMCAs until then?
A: We are still working on reopening plans for the following branches:
Fulton Family YMCA
Innovation Quarter YMCA
Wells Fargo Express YMCA
Wilkes Express YMCA

Once we have more information about wellness services at these locations we will share it as soon as possible. Your membership gives you access to other YMCAs in our association. So even if your home YMCA has not reopened yet, you can use others nearby that have reopened.

Q: Why are the YMCAs operating on different hours, with a three-hour break in the middle of the day?
A: Our limited hours are based on current staffing levels. The brief closure in the middle of the day is to allow time for staff to conduct a thorough cleaning of the facility. We will constantly monitor usage at each Y and determine if the hours need to be updated.

Q: Are we required to wear masks while we’re working out?
A: Effective Wednesday, November 25 at 5:00pm, face coverings will be mandatory at all times inside the Y. This change is in response to the latest executive order from Governor Roy Cooper. Those with medical exemptions do not have to wear a face covering as allowed by the requirements of gyms and indoor facilities per the governor.

Q: Do I still need to bring in a doctor’s note?
A: No, the above branches will be open to all members and guests on the above dates.

Q: Are you offering Child Watch/Kids Zone while parents exercise?
A: Kids Zone (formerly known as Child Watch) is now open at the Jerry Long and Robinhood Road Family YMCAs. Click here for more details about what to expect at Robinhood and here for Jerry Long. At our other branches, we are not able to offer Child Watch/Kids Zone at this time due to staffing needs.

Q: Will gymnasiums be open, too? What about the walking lanes above the gyms?
A: Click here for information on what gyms are open at which branches. All walking tracks are open.

Q: What other areas are unavailable?
A: Other spaces and services that will remain closed for now are saunas, whirlpools, steam rooms, and lobbies (which includes coffee) because physical distancing cannot be maintained. The towel service and hydromassage at the William G. White, Jr. Family YMCA is also on hold during this time.

Q: What do I need to bring with me?
A: Please bring your mask, as well as a water bottle (water fountains are closed off at this time). Bottle filling stations will be available. Please bring a mat or towel if you are participating in our Indoor/Outdoor Yoga, Pilates, BODYFLOW, CXWORX or BODYATTACK classes.

Q: How often will the facility be cleaned?
A: In addition to cleaning the facility during the three-hour closure, staff will routinely clean spaces in the building throughout the day — as well as prior to opening and at closing each day. If you’re planning on using equipment, you will be given a spray bottle upon arrival that you will keep with you throughout your visit. (If you’re taking a group exercise class, you will not need a bottle.) Please return the bottle to the designated location.

Q: Can guests come to the YMCA?
A: Yes, guests of members can come to the YMCA.

Q: Can members rent out spaces for events?
A: We are not allowing rentals to members at this time.

Q: How will reopening affect swimming lanes at the pool?
A: Hours for pools across our association will change to match the new operational hours (once that Y reopens). Due to current staffing levels, we won’t be able to operate the pools on different hours from the indoor wellness facilities. On the day each branch opens, all of our lane reservations will be maxed at 2 members per lane.

Q: Do I need to reserve a spot to visit the Y?
A: No, you do not need a reservation to use the indoor facilities at this time.

Q: Do I still have to reserve a spot in the pool?
A: Yes, the reservations system for the pool will remain in place.

Q: There have been issues with the reservation system and mobile app in the past. Have those problems been resolved?
A: We have launched a new reservation system. Please visit ymcanwnc.org/schedules to make reservations.
