The William G. White Family YMCA is constantly growing and expanding the youth and adult sports program. The program hosts a variety of sports for all ages. All youth leagues focus on teaching youth teamwork, friendships, skills and respect for coaches, players and self. If you are interested in a particular sport please note the registration and season dates on our website. You can also call the front desk for further details.

Fall Youth Sports
Early Registration: (June 1 – July 26) $60/members; $90/potential members
Late Registration: (July 27-August 23) $75/members; $105/potential members
Program Dates: Practices will start the week of August 27 and run through October 24
Youth Soccer
Learn communication and teamwork in a positive environment where every team member is important. Children ages 4-11 learn responsibility and dedication while improving soccer skills at all ability levels. Please indicate on your form if you want two day soccer or one day soccer
Two Day a Week: Children ages 4-11 years old will have practices during the week and games and Saturday games lead by volunteer coaches
Age Groups: Boys 4-5, Boys 6-7, Boys 8-9, Boys 10-11, Girls 4-5, Girls 6-7, Girls 8-9, Girls 10-11
One Day a Week: Children ages 3-7 will have a 30 minute practice followed by a 30 minute game lead by volunteer coaches.
Coed 3: Practice and games are Mondays or Wednesdays from 5:45pm – 6:45pm
Boys 4-5: Practice and games are Mondays from 5:45pm – 6:45pm
Boys 6-7: Practice and games are Wednesdays from 5:45pm – 6:45pm
Girls 4-5: Practice and games are Thursdays from 5:45pm – 6:45pm
Girls 6-7: Practice and games are Thursdays from 5:45pm – 6:45pm
Flag Football
With all the action and excitement of classic football, this program for kids ages 4-13 improves overall fitness, as well as strategic game planning in a dynamic sport environment. Weekly practices and games encourage kids to set and achieve personal and team-oriented goals
Age Groups: Coed 4-5, Coed 6-7, Coed 8-9, Coed 10-11, Coed 12-13
T-Ball/Modified T-Ball
Hit a home run in this clinic-style program for kids ages 4-7. Make new friends and work on individual abilities like catching, hitting and pitching under the guidance of qualified and energetic coaches. All skill levels are welcome to improve their skills with team-building drills. Each session is limited to the first 40 kids.
T-Ball (Ages 4-5): Practices and games take place either Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesday from 5:45pm to 6:45pm.
Modified T-Ball (Ages 6-7): Practices and games take place Thursdays from 5:45 – 6:45.
Lacrosse
Boys and girls (Ages 6-9) will learn the introductory skills of lacrosse (catching, throwing, ground balls, cradling, moving with the ball). Program will take place on Sunday afternoons.
Boys Lacrosse: Sundays from 1:00pm – 2:15pm
Girls Lacrosse: Sundays from 2:15pm – 3:30pm
Volleyball
Set yourself up for success and a fantastic time in this volleyball program! Participants ages 8 to 15 will have the chance to learn the fundamentals or improve upon advanced or intermediate skills. Each participant will experience skill development, thrilling competition, and fun with encouragement and guidance from our expert staff.
Girls 8-9: Mondays beginning September 10 – October 29 from 5:45 – 7:00pm
Girls 10-12: Tues./Thurs. beginning September 4 – October 25 from 5:45pm- 7:00pm
Girls 12-15: Tues./Thurs. beginning September 4 – October 25 from 7:00pm 8:15pm
Boys 11-14: Wednesday beginning September 5 – October 24 from 5:45 – 7:00pm
Girls Cheerleading
Girls (Ages 4-12) will learn the confidence and self-esteem through cheer. Program focuses on the basics of cheer including simple cheers and getting the crowds pumped up.
Ages 4 – 6: Will have practices from 8:45am – 9:15am and cheer from 9:15am – 10:00am
Ages 7 – 9: Will have practices from 10:15am – 11:00am and cheer from 11:00am – 12:00pm
Ages 10 – 12: Will have practices from 10:15am – 11:00am and cheer from 11:00am – 12:00pm
One on One Hoops Basketball Academy
Work on your basketball skills at every level during the Fall in preparation for Winter Basketball beginning week of September 3rd.
Coed 5-7: 5:30 – 6:30pm
Coed 8-10: 6:30 – 7:30pm
Coed 11-14: 7:30pm – 8:30pm
Youth Kickball
Program for kids ages 4-13 is designed to encourage character development and team play without competition. Each session takes place on Sundays and is themed to promote a fun and festive exercise atmosphere.
Adult Kickball
Program for adults ages 18 and older to go back to their playground days in a fun and festive atmosphere. There will be a regular season of 8 games followed by a postseason tournament. The fee is $30 members/$40 potential members by July 27 and $5 more each after.

Spring Sports Preseason Timeline
Team Requests:
All finalized player, coach, night requests are due by February 28th. Please send the request to the Sports Director via e-mail.
Team Assignments: All parents will be notified via e-mail their child’s team assignment by March 5th
Practices: Practices will start the week of March 12th
Game Dates: March 24, April 14, April 21, April 28, May 5, May 12, Week of May 14-18, May 19.
Equipment Needed: Equipment in bold is required equipment for the program. Soccer equipment and cleats can be found at the Soccer Shop located on Reynolda Road. All other equipment can be found at any local Sporting Goods Store.
Soccer: Shinguards, Size 3 soccer ball (Ages 3 – 7), Size 4 soccer ball (Ages 8 and up)
Jersey Pickup: Jerseys will be available for pickup from the Soccer Shop on Sunday, March 11th from 4pm – 6pm
T-Ball: Glove
Flag Football: None required. Ages 4 – 7 will use a Pee Wee size football, Ages 8 and up will use a Junior size football
Cheerleading: None required as of now
Volleyball: Knee pads and a volley-lite volleyball are recommended
Girls Lacrosse: Eye protection and lacrosse stick
Kickball: No extra equipment needed
Coaches Information
Coaches Meeting: For anyone interested in coaching soccer, t-ball, flag football, kickball or lacrosse we will meet on February 28th to go over expectations of the YMCA and hand out coaches packets and rules. The meeting will be from 6:00pm – 7:00pm.
Association Coaches Training: March 10th from 10am – 12pm at the Jerry Long YMCA
Other Information
Summer Camp and Summer Sports Program Registration will begin March 15th.

Pre-School Spring Break Sports Camp
Dates: April 2 – April 6
Costs: $100 for members; $130 for potential members
Times: 9:00am – 12:00pm (drop off is from 8:00am to 9:00am and pick up is 12:00pm – 1:00pm)
Activities: Basketball, soccer, flag football, field games and traditional day camp activities

One-on-One Spring Break Hoops Camp
Dates: April 2 – April 6
Costs: Full Day: $130 for members; $160 for potential members
Half Day: $100 for members; $130 for potential members
Times: 9:00am – 4:00pm (Half Day is from 9am – 12:00pm (drop off is from 8:00am to 9:00am and pick up is 12:00pm-1:00pm for half day and 4:00pm to 5:00pm for full day)

Girls Cheerleading
Girls will learn the basics of cheerleading and perform routines at flag football games. Times will be dependent on game schedule for flag football.

Racquetball Lessons
Racquetball Lessons are available twice per month. Lessons are conducted by Head/Penn Advisory Staff Member, Ted Freshwater. Racquetball is a great way to have fun and get in shape with friends or on your own, so reserve your free group lesson at the Welcome Center today!

Youth Sports Volunteer
There are a variety of volunteer opportunities at the William G. White, Jr. Family YMCA Sports Program. Ranging from coaching, officiating, scorekeeping or assisting with the incentives of our programs, there is an opportunity for everyone. Below you will find the steps needed to volunteer in our sports programs.

2. After filling out the application, please contact the Sports Director at j.zendel@ymcanwnc.org or 721-2100, ext. 6271 about inquiring about the available sport leagues to volunteer for in the upcoming season.
