Summer Swim Lesson Pass

Summer Swim Lesson Pass

Make this the summer of swim! If one session isn’t enough for your little fish, we now offer a Summer Swim Lesson Pass, which allows your child to attend any of our summer swim lesson classes in their age group.

Youth Swim Lessons

These swim lessons are designed to teach all levels of swimmers, from beginners to advanced youth age children.  The participants are classified by category (Polliwog, Guppy, Minnow, Fish, Flying Fish, Shark) according to their level and achievements.  The instructor will determine the level and help the students move up to the next level by setting goals for each of the participants.  Each session includes 8 lessons with a certified instructor, stroke development, personal safety activities, personal growth discussions, water sports and games, and rescue skills. Lessons held at the Stokes Family YMCA Pool – we meet by the bleachers near the shallow end.

Ages: 6-12 years

Monday and Wednesday Mornings 9:30-10:15am
Tuesday and Thursday Mornings 9:30-10:15am
Monday Nights 6:15-7:00pm

These swim lessons are designed to teach beginners and advanced beginners.  The participants are classified by category (Pike, Eel, Ray, Starfish) according to their level and achievements.  The instructor will determine the level and help the students move up to the next level by setting goals for each of the participants.  Each session includes 8 lessons with a certified instructor, stroke development, personal safety activities, personal growth discussions, water sports and games, and rescue skills. Lessons held at the Stokes Family YMCA Pool – we meet by the bleachers near the shallow end.

Ages: 3-5 years

Lifeguard Certification Classes

During this class, participants will learn life-saving rescue skills for an Aquatic Environment.  Once a participant takes the classes and passes the skills and written test, they will be certified as a YMCA Lifeguard for 2 years and can Lifeguard at any YMCA and most other facilities (certification requirements may vary at each location).

Prerequisites
Before entering the class, each lifeguard candidate must have the following certifications: CPR PRO, First Aid Administration, and Oxygen Administration.
A lifeguard candidate must be able to:

  • Swim 500 yards using multiple strokes
  • Perform a standing head-first surface dive
  • Tread water without hands for 2 minutes
  • Pass written skills test
  • Complete all water rescue skills

Price
$150 for members
$185 for potential members

May and June class runs over two weekends.

April Class:
Friday, May 4 4-9pm; Saturday, May 5 8am-4pm; Sunday, May 5 1-5pm;
Friday, May 11 4-9pm; Saturday, May 12 8am-4pm; Sunday, May 13 1-5pm

May Class:
Friday, May 25 4-9 pm; Saturday, May 26 8am-4pm; Sunday, May 27 1-5pm;
Friday, June 1 4-9 pm; Saturday, June 2 8am-4pm; Sunday, June 3 1-5pm;

What to Bring:
Swimsuit, towel, bag lunch (or go out for lunch), On the Guard II Book (you will receive this book and a whistle on the first day of class).  Vending machines on Location.  You may bring snacks and drinks.


AquaNauts Swim Lessons

Need swim lessons but can’t commit every week? AquaNauts Swim Lessons are 45-minute swim lessons that your child can participate in while signed into the Youth Room. Participants do not have to know how to swim. This program is exclusive to members.

Ages: 6-11 years

Days & Times:
Thursday night: 6:00 – 6:45pm
Tuesday mornings: 9:15 – 10:00am (June 14-August 9)
Thursday mornings: 9:15 – 10:00am (June 5-August 9)

Cost: $5 per lesson

 


Private Swim Lessons

These swim lessons are designed to teach all levels of swimmers. You will be paired one-on-one with an instructor and progress at your own pace.  Once you register, an instructor will contact you and set up a time for your session(s).  These sessions are scheduled at your convenience.  Each session lasts 30-minutes in duration.

Cost:
1 Session: $30 for members/ $65 for potential members
3 Sessions: $75 for members/ $150 for potential members
6 Sessions: $120 for members/ $240 for potential members
9 Sessions: $162 for members/ $324 for potential members

Adult Swim Lessons

Adult Swim Lessons

These swim lessons are designed to teach beginners and advanced beginners.  The instructor will work to help participants gain confidence and stability in the water as well as teach basic swimming strokes.  Each session includes 8 lessons with an instructor, stroke development, personal safety activities, and rescue skills.

Ages: 16 years and older

Days & Times:
Monday and Tuesday Nights 7:00-7:45pm

$40 for members; $85 for potential members

Parent/Child Swim Lessons

These swim lessons are designed to teach water acclamation and basic water skills to young children with parent participation.  The participants are classified by category (Shrimp, Kipper, Inia, Perch) according to their age. Each session includes 8 lessons with a certified instructor, stroke development, personal safety activities, personal growth discussions, water sports and games, and rescue skills.  At least one adult (over 18) is required to be in the pool with the participant at all times.

TYDE is a USA Swimming and YMCA swim team offering a full range of competitive programming for all ages. Originally started in 1973 as WSY, we have grown to become one of the largest and most respected swim teams in North Carolina and across the country.
