The Stokes Family YMCA is constantly growing and expanding the youth and adult sports program. The program hosts a variety of sports for all ages. All youth leagues focus on teaching youth teamwork, friendships, skills and respect for coaches, players and self. If you are interested in a particular sport please note the registration and season dates on our website. You can also call the front desk for further details.

Lacrosse Academy

Looking for something different? Try the fastest growing team sport in the country!

Lacrosse combines some of the best aspects of other sports into one sport. Lacrosse Academy will teach the basics of cradling, throwing, catching, ground balls, dodging, shooting, feeding, faceoffs and defense.

Why you should play

  • Chance to learn a new sport
  • Helps with skills for other sports due to the combination of different aspects of other sports
  • Schedule does not conflict with our soccer program so you may play both

8-13 years old – coed

Session Information

There are a total of 8 sessions. All sessions will be held Thursdays 6:00-7:00pm. We will hold a scrimmage on the last two sessions. An awards party will be held on October 30 following the scrimmage.

Registration (June 1-July 24): $40 Members, $55 Potential Members

Late Registration (July 25-September 4): $50 Members, $65 Potential Members

Parent Participation

Parents are encouraged and welcome to come out and help their player with drills. Parents may also volunteer to help lead drills in order to reduce waiting time for players. And parent wanting to get involved may arrive a few minutes early and ask Patrick how they can help.

Additional Info

Children will need a lacrosse stick and mouth guard, neither provided by the YMCA. The Y will provide jerseys.


Pickleball

Pickleball is a combination of tennis, badminton, ping pong and racquetball, and also one the fastest growing sports in America. It may be a silly name, but it’s a serious sport!

Good for all ages…come see what the excitement is all about!!

Keeping Kids Active: Homeschool P.E

Keeping Kids Active: Homeschool P.E

The Stokes Family YMCA provides your child with a healthy fun-filled P.E. class for an hour and a half, once a week. We will include many spectacular activities from the National Youth Fitness test, basketball, soccer, group games, water safety, and most importantly, nutrition. We will also host Field Day at the end of the year. Give your children the opportunity to socialize and interact with many other children their age and meet new friends!!!

2014-2015 School Year – 8 week semester with class on Tuesdays from 2pm-3:30pm

First Semester: September 2-October 21
Second Semester: October 28-December 16

Fourth Semester: March 3-April 28 (no class on March 31)

$25 for Members per child; $60 max for 4 children; $75 max for 6 children

Tiny Tots Teeball

Now your 3-5 year olds can have the experience of teeball. Taught by YMCA staff in a clinic-style format, players are taught the basics of teeball such as catching, throwing, hitting, base running and defense.

There is a total of 8 sessions: 6 practices and 2 scrimmages.

All sessions will be held on Thursdays from 5:45-6:30pm, starting August 28.

An awards party will be held on October 16 following the last scrimmage.

Glove (not provided by the YMCA) is required, cleats are not required. Participants may bring bats or helmets if they choose. Jersey t-shirt will be provided by the YMCA.

Youth Soccer

Our outdoor soccer league is designed for your child to learn the fundamentals of soccer. Coached by dedicated volunteers.

Players will have fun while developing an appreciation for sports and physical activity. They will practice skills while learning sportsmanship and teamwork.

The YMCA believes that character development is an essential element of sports. Caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith are valued on and off the field.  In YMCA sports, everyone plays and everyone plays fair. We put safety first and emphasize positive competition. YMCA sports are for all and are played for fun.

Two Days a Week

Practices are one day during the week and games will be played on Saturdays, with an occasional game during the week.

Age Groups: Coed 4-5, Coed 6-7, Coed 8-9, Coed 10-11, Coed 12-14, Coed 15-16
*Age groups are subject to change depending on registration.

Skill Evaluations: All players ages 8 & up must be evaluated prior to the season.  Players must attend in order to be placed on a team. Date: Saturday, August 16 at 11am (ages 8-11) or 12 pm (ages 12-16).

Practices will be held on Mondays or Fridays. Practices and games will be held on the fields at King Elementary School. Games will be played on Saturday mornings and afternoons. Some games may be played at other local YMCAs for the travel experience. Practices will start the week of August 25 and games begin September 13.

One Day a Week Kiddie Kickers

Practices and games are held on the same day. Taught by YMCA staff in a clinic style format, players are taught the basics of soccer such as dribbling, passing, shooting, defending and goalkeeping.

Age Groups: 3-4

Sessions are held on Tuesdays from 5:45-6:30pm at King Elementary School. There are a total of 8 sessions: 6 practices and 2 scrimmages. First practice: August 26. Scrimmages: October 7 and October 14. An awards party will be held on October 14 following the last scrimmage. Shin guards required, cleats not required. Jersey t-shirt provided by the YMCA.

Coaching Soccer

YMCA youth sports is a volunteer-based program.  Coaches are necessary to the success of our leagues. Please consider coaching this season! Circle Coach or Asst. Coach in the Willingness to Volunteer Section. All coaches must fill out a volunteer form and turn it in before coach’s meeting. Coach’s Meeting: Tuesday, August 19 at 6:30pm.

Additional Info

Children will need athletic shorts, socks, cleats (recommended for ages 6 & up) and shin guards. The Y will provide jerseys for the teams. Jerseys will only be given to participants who have paid in full. Children may not participate in games without a jersey.


Adult Volleyball

Adult Volleyball offers a fun and exciting atmosphere with friends, co-workers, and family. It is also a great way to meet new people and make new friends. Players may sign up as an individual or together as a team.

Ages

14 and up
*Players ages 14-17 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian to be allowed to participate.

When

Tuesday, September 9 will serve as Orientation and Pre-Season. Teams will be announced on this date and given time to introduce themselves to one another. We will briefly go over major rules. Two pre-season games will be played on this night and will not count in the regular season standings.

Season begins September 16 and runs through October 28.

Each team must have at least two females on the court at all times. The league will consist of a 6 v 6 format.

Individual Sign Ups

All players signing up individually will be placed together on teams. Individuals may request to be paired with others signing up individually and we will do our best to accommodate these pairings. No more than 8 individuals will be placed on a team.

Team Sign Ups

In order to sign up as team, you must have at least 6 players, two of which are female. Please list your team name along with your captain and teammates on your form. Every player on a team must fill out a form individually.

YMCA COACH’S CREED

Join the fun of a tailgate favorite while spending time with family and friends. Fun-spirited atmosphere where new friendships can be made and memories that will last a lifetime. Whether you are competitive, play for fun, or a beginner, this is the place for you!
