The Stokes Family YMCA is constantly growing and expanding the youth and adult sports program. The program hosts a variety of sports for all ages. All youth leagues focus on teaching youth teamwork, friendships, skills and respect for coaches, players and self. If you are interested in a particular sport please note the registration and season dates on our website. You can also call the front desk for further details.

Youth Basketball

Our summer basketball program is a fast-paced league for those dedicated to playing basketball even in the off-season.

Ages

7-8 coed, 9-11 coed, 12-14 coed (Middle School), 14-18 (High School)

Age groups are subject to change depending on registration numbers. Player’s age as of March 16 will determine their age division. Please specify if your child intends to play up a division.

Important Dates

June 8: Practices begin
June 18: Games begin

Skills Evaluations:

All players must be evaluated prior to the season. Players must attend in order to be placed on a team. Tuesday, May 26 (ages 7-11 at 6:30pm, ages 12-18 at 7:30pm)

Coaches Meeting and Draft Day: Thursday, May 28 at 6:30pm

Practice and Game Information

Practices will be held on Mondays ONLY. Some practices will be held at Poplar Springs Elementary School. Games will be played at the Y on Thursday, Fridays and occasionally Saturdays.

Registration

Now through May 21: $57 Members/$77 Potential Members

*After May 21, a late fee of $25 per child will be added to the registration fee. After May 21, a waiting list will begin and roster spots will be opened until they are full. No one is guaranteed placement on a team or a jersey if they register after the registration period.

 

 

 

Coaching

YMCA youth sports is a volunteer-based program. Coaches are necessary to the success of our leagues. Please consider coaching this season! Circle Coach or Asst. Coach in the Willingness to Volunteer Section. All coaches must fill out a volunteer form and turn in before coaches meeting. Coach’s Meeting and Draft: Thursday, May 28 at 6:30pm

Requests

We will do our best to accommodate any requests regarding practice night, but we cannot guarantee that a request for teammate, coach, jersey number, etc. can be honored.  In order to maintain a fair and fun experience for all kids involved, the YMCA will do everything we can to ensure even teams heading into the season, therefore NO refunds will be given for participants who withdraw due to unmet requests.

Volleyball Academy

Volleyball Academy will teach the basics of bumping, setting, spiking, digging, passing, serving, positioning and much more led by our YMCA staff.

Why You Should Play

Gives beginning players a chance to learn the game without the pressure of league play. Practices occur before games so you can apply the skills you learn immediately.
Gets you prepared for volleyball try-outs. A chance to keep active physically and mentally during the summer.

Session Information

There are a total of 8 sessions and all will be held on Tuesdays at 5:30pm. The first 4 sessions will be strictly practices for an hour. The last 4 sessions will start with a 45 minute practice prior to a game being played. Teams will be split up differently each week prior to games.

Knee pads (not provided by the YMCA, not required)
Mouth Guard (not provided by the YMCA, not required)
Jersey (t-shirt will be provided by the YMCA)

Pickleball

Pickleball is a combination of tennis, badminton, ping pong and racquetball, and also one the fastest growing sports in America. It may be a silly name, but it’s a serious sport!

Good for all ages…come see what the excitement is all about!!

Adult Basketball

Industrial League Basketball

Industrial League offers a fun and exciting atmosphere with friends, co-workers, or family. It is also a great way to meet new people and make new friends. Players must sign up as a team and designate a captain. Teams may be sponsored by a company or can just be a group of friends. Church groups are welcome as well. Each team is guaranteed 10 games. A tournament will be held at the end of the season (all teams qualify).

Location

All games will be played at the Stokes Family YMCA on Sundays. Games will be played on Sundays and the following Mondays: August 10 and August 17.

Rules

The league will consist of a 5 v 5 format. Roster limit is 15.

Captains Meeting

Each captain must attend a Captains Meeting on Monday, June 1 at 6:30pm. If a captain cannot attend, please send a representative to take your place.

Team Sign Ups

Only a complete team will be allowed to sign up. A team must have a minimum of 5 players and no more than 15. Players may not sign up individually.

Keeping Kids Active: Homeschool P.E

Keeping Kids Active: Homeschool P.E

The Stokes Family YMCA provides your child with a healthy fun-filled P.E. class for an hour and a half, once a week. We will include many spectacular activities from the National Youth Fitness test, basketball, soccer, group games, water safety, and most importantly, nutrition. We will also host Field Day at the end of the year. Give your children the opportunity to socialize and interact with many other children their age and meet new friends!!!

2014-2015 School Year – 8 week semester with class on Tuesdays from 2pm-3:30pm

First Semester: September 2-October 21
Second Semester: October 28-December 16
Third Semester: January 6-February 24
Fourth Semester: March 3-April 28 (no class on March 31)
Christmas Break: December 23 & 30
Easter Break: March 31

$25 for Members per child; $60 max for 4 children; $75 max for 6 children

Little Dribblers

Little Dribblers

Now your 3-6 year olds can have the experience of basketball!

Taught by YMCA staff in a clinic-style format, players are taught the basics of basketball such as dribbling, passing, shooting, defending and rebounding.

Age Groups

3-4 years old coed, 5-6 years old coed

Age groups are subject to change depending on registration numbers.

When

First practice will be June 11. First scrimmage will be July 23. Little Dribblers will include 8 sessions: 6 practices, and the last 2 sessions will be scrimmages.
Sessions will be held on Thursdays from 5:30-6:15pm. An awards party will be held on July 30, following the last scrimmage.

Additional Info

Players need to wear tennis shoes, not provided by the YMCA. Players will receive a t-shirt for participating.

Parent Participation

Parents are encouraged and welcome to come out and help their player with drills. Parents may also volunteer to help lead drills in order to reduce waiting time for players. Any parent wanting to get involved may arrive a few minutes early and ask Patrick how they can help.

Adult Volleyball offers a fun and exciting atmosphere with friends, co-workers, and family.  It is also a great way to meet new people and make new friends.  Players may sign up as an individual or together as a team.

14 and up
Players ages 14-17 must have a waiver signed by parent or guardian to be allowed to participate.

Registration March 16-May 21: $35/Members; $55/Potential Members

Orientation

Tuesday, June 9 will be serve as Orientation and Pre-Season. Teams will be announced on this date the given time to introduce themselves to one another. We will also go over major rules. Two pre-season games will be played on this night and will not count in the regular season standings.

Rules

Each team must have at least two females on the court at all times. The league will consist of a 6 v 6 format. For the rest of our league rules, please visit our website.

Individual Sign Ups

All players signing up individually will be placed together on teams. Individuals may request to be paired with others signing up individually and we will do our best to accommodate these pairings. No more than 8 individuals will be placed on a team.

Team Sign Ups

In order to sign up as team, you must have at least 6 players, two of which are female. Please list your team name along with your captain and teammates on your form. Every player on a team must fill out a form individually.
