Spring 2012 Soccer

Soccer is one of the biggest and most widely played sports in the country. Don’t be left out! Each participant will be assigned to a team, receive an authentic NIKE soccer jersey, and get a trophy at the end of the year. YMCA youth sports are designed to develop not only better athletes, but better people by incorporating character development and positive attitudes. The focus of these leagues is on skills, fun, and friendship.

Kiddie Kickers
This program is for our tiniest of soccer players, our 3 to 4 year olds, who want to start getting into the game. Kiddie Kickers is about socializing and making friends in an atmosphere designed to encourage the kids to enjoy soccer without the pressure of competition. It will teach the most basic of skills: kicking, shooting, passing, stretching, dribbling, throw-ins, etc. This is a clinic style program without actual games. Each child will get a cool jersey and a trophy! Sessions are limited to 25 players each, so sign up soon! Kiddie Kickers sessions are held on Monday afternoons at 5:15 and 6:15 PM(choose one).

Soccer Leagues
YMCA soccer leagues are broken down into male and female divisions as well as age divisions for fairness and fun. Each child will be placed on a team in his/her appropriate group. Teams are lead by volunteer youth sports coaches, many of whom have been active at the YMCA for many seasons and/or have played the game themselves. Teams practice once per week.

Indoor Soccer

Indoor Soccer

We believe that kids want and need to stay active. We believe that kids want to make friends, experience new things, and have fun. We believe that this should be done in an environment that is positive and caring, one that fosters character development and acceptance, and one that encourages growth and equal participation. Indoor Soccer at the Kernersville YMCA is all of these things.

Youth Basketball Registration Open

Youth Basketball Registration Open

Registration is open for the winter basketball season. With programs for children as young as age 3, as well as recreational leagues for ages 5 through 18, there are a variety of opportunities to build skills and embrace competition. Participants learn critical skills including how to dribble, shoot, play effective defense, and cut down on turnovers. YMCA youth sports also focus on character development to build self confidence, teamwork, sportsmanship and life-long healthy habits.

The Kernersville Family YMCA program begins with Little Dribblers, an introductory program for 3 and 4 year old athletes. Recreational leagues begin at age 5 and are available through age 18. Sports Volunteer

The YMCA Sports program is always looking for great volunteers to help out with various aspects of the program. Our sports leagues are 100% volunteer driven, meaning that every single coach out on the fields is a volunteer. We value these individuals and without them, our terrific programs would not be possible. If you are interested in becoming a coach, contact Jordan DuBois at 336-996-2231 or j.dubois@ymcanwnc.org, download and fill out the volunteer application below and turn it in to the front desk.

We also accept requests by students seeking community service hours for school or extra-curricular activities to volunteer at the Kernersville YMCA. Individuals that wish to volunteer in the sports department may be asked to help set up and break down games or practices, run the clocks and keep score at games, pass out or collect information on game days, or help with Y work days.

It is imperative that these individuals be upbeat and positive. We will not use volunteers that are not excited about being here. All such individuals should also contact Jordan DuBois and fill out and turn in the volunteer application found below. Not all applicants will be used. Parents should NOT call to set up volunteer hours for their kids!! The student themselves should take the initiative!

Any high school students or college students that need service hours and are interested in a particular sport should consider coaching a team for a season. Coaching requires approximately 20 hours of volunteer work each season(10 practices, 8 games, and meetings). This is a fun way to serve the community and teach kids the fundementals of sports and character development.

The YMCA is looking for volunteer coaches. If you want to put kids first, please fill out a volunteer application and check the coaches box on the registration form and contact Jordan DuBois at 336-996-2231 or j.dubois@ymcanwnc.org.

Apply to be a volunteer today!
