MAKE BACK TO SCHOOL BRIGHT! VOLUNTEER FOR YMCA BRIGHT BEGINNINGS!

Each year in the days leading up to the first day of school, YMCA volunteers take children who would otherwise not be prepared back to school shopping. This year, about 50 underprivileged children from several area elementary schools will go back-school-shopping through the Statesville Family YMCA Bright Beginnings Program. The children are also provided with a new, donated backpack stuffed with essential school supplies.

Many of us remember picking out a brand new backpack, outfit and purchasing supplies to get ready for the first day of school each year. Parents struggling to make ends meet cannot provide that experience, but we can still help children start the school year ready for success and make back to school special. Each year, the Y works with the staff at local Elementary Schools to identify the students who are most in need.

This year’s Bright Beginnings is taking place:

Saturday, August 15, 2015

Community members can get involved in YMCA Bright Beginnings by donating and volunteering. Call 704-873-9622 and ask for Lisa Stone or email her at l.stone@ymcanwnc.org for more info about how you can help!

We also need your help collecting the following supplies to fill our backpacks. Any items that you are able to provide would be greatly appreciated! Suggested items include crayons, glue sticks, #2 Pencils, Tissues, washable markers, pencil pouch (zippered or box), composition or spiral note books, hand sanitizer, binders, colored pens or highlighters, spiral noebooks, etc.
