Frye Medical Center will be here offering a variety of FREE health screenings at the Alexander County Family YMCA, including:
- Vascular Screenings
- Bone Density Heel Scans
- EKG Screenings*
- Stroke Risk Assessments
- Screening Mammograms**
*EKG Screenings also include cholesterol and blood glucose check, blood pressure, and BMI check. Fasting is required, please do not eat or drink after midnight the night before.
**A fee will apply, insurance will be filed.

In celebration of the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina’s 125th Anniversary, we want to hear how the Y has impacted you or your family’s life. Share why you come to, work for, volunteer with, or give to the Y.

Here are the rules:
We want to hear any experience, fond memory, or passion for the Y that keeps you coming back! The first 1,000 individuals to submit stories will receive t-shirts, or until supplies last. Stories must be authentic and include a bit of your own personal history. Responses less than at least 5 sentences long will not qualify.

At the Y, we focus on programs that allow children to explore and get involved in activities that help them grow both mentally and physically.

Get On Your Weigh
Do you need extra motivation and instruction to lose weight? Get On Your Weight is an 8-week weight management program that helps you create a healthy lifestyle habit!
First place winner receives a 3-month Adult Membership. Must have permission from a physician to participate.
The program includes:
- Certified Personal Trainer
- Workouts twice a week
- Weigh-In sessions including measurements and BMI calculations
- Weekly Nutrition Sessions
- Free T-shirt
- LOTS of team and coach support
Registration begins February 3, 2014
Program will run April 8-May 29
Group workouts will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:15 to 7:15pm. (Included Nutrition 30 minutes per week)
Must have a minimum of 8 participants to hold program

Group Exercise Classes
Classes are open to all exercise levels, with alternative movements offered for different skill levels to maximize your personal workout. Our instructors are happy to give additional guidance to beginners. Just introduce yourself before class! Minimum age is 12 years (with a parent).
