From time to time we hear great stories about the impact that YMCA volunteers, staff or programs have on individuals. We call these “mission moments.” Here is one a membership staff member recently shared.
With a packed schedule each week, you can’t always make it to the gym. No problem when you’ve got a living room floor, backyard or garage! Body weight exercises are a simple and free way to improve your balance, flexibility, and strength. You can work almost every muscle with moves that will show great results. Who knows? Maybe you can even get the whole family involved and have a little fun! Here are some great exercises to get started.
When you’re on a wellness journey, you probably hear all kinds of advice from family and friends. While it’s well intentioned, it may not all be accurate. As trainers, we hear the following fitness myths all the time and today, we’re going to bust a few:
Minor muscle aches occur after a workout because stressing your muscles causes tiny tears in the muscle fiber and connective tissue. Muscle growth and strength gains occur during the process of repairing these tears, so they are not a bad thing — but they can be uncomfortable. Expect some soreness after a good workout, but understand the difference between regular soreness and a potential injury.
