Help the YMCA Stock the Pantry this Fall
Donate to Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County or Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC and Receive $49 off the Joining Fee for New Members
WINSTON-SALEM, NC (October 6, 2011) – As we prepare for colder months, the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina is working with other local nonprofits to ensure everyone in our community has a stocked pantry.
The Y has partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County and Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina to gather much-needed donations of cleaning supplies and canned food. When new members bring a donation of 5 canned goods or 2 cleaning supplies products, they will receive $49 off the joining fee. The offer runs until October 31.
Cleaning supplies needed include: brooms, mops, cleaning supplies, trash bags, laundry and dish detergents, dish towels, dish cloths, dryer sheets, soap, sponges, etc. Canned foods donations can include lean meats (such as tuna or chicken), a good source of low-fat protein, or canned or dry, a good source of fiber; shelf-stable low-fat dairy products fortified with vitamin D; canned or dry fruits and vegetables or non-perishable whole grains.
Second Harvest Food Bank of NWNC is currently experiencing the worst food shortage that it has encountered since 2009, as a result of sustained increases in need coupled with a decline in the supply of donated food. Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County, rooted in Christian principles, brings together community partners and volunteers from all faiths to help qualified Partner Families construct and purchase well-built, affordable homes and become successful homeowners.
