YMCA and Fleet Feet Sports Partner for Mistletoe Run Training Program

Beginner 5K and Half Marathon Training Helps Runners Prepare for Run to Stop Childhood Obesity

The YMCA of Northwest North Carolina and Fleet Feet Sports of Winston-Salem are launching a joint training program in conjunction with the 28th Annual YMCA Mistletoe Half Marathon, 5K and Fun Run.

This year’s race, to be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011, is dedicated to not only raising awareness of childhood obesity, but also to fund programs that work. One example is the YMCA-sponsored P.A.C.E.S. (Program for Active Children Eating Smarter), a proven program that helps families understand and make healthier lifestyle and eating choices. P.A.C.E.S. has reached over 3,000 kids in our community to date.

Childcare is provided at William G. White, Jr. Family YMCA for all training participants during weekday practices (childcare is not available for the Saturday Half Marathon practice). Here are the details for each program:

Athletes are challenged according to ability, and the program is great for an 8 year old that needs more activity, or a 14 year old who has some competitive running experience.
